Efficient Lighting Initiative

Babcock Energy-Efficient Lighting Initiative

Scope of work:

Designing and installing an LED retrofit, as well as adding a smart meter to monitor actual savings.

Date commissioned:

18 October 2016

Savings:

146 tonnes of CO2 per annum. 63% saving of lighting load. 148 273 kWh and 751 KVA per annum of energy saving

ELDO Energy was mandated to carry out an energy-efficient lighting solution for the Babcock Head Office in Bedfordview.

ELDO’s approach

The design team adopted a bespoke design approach, combining a number of leading OEM manufacturer technologies to optimize each individual lighting application. In addition, they added a smart meter to determine actual savings achieved against a baseline from energy-management products.

Outcomes

Lighting

This LED retrofit equates to a saving of 146 tonnes of CO2 per annum.

63% saving of lighting load with improved lighting levels throughout the head office. It will deliver 148 273 kWh and 751 KVA per annum of energy savings.

Payback time of less than 2 years for Babcock.

All mercury-containing lamps were removed and safely disposed of.

Smart metering

Babcock is able to proactively manage their electricity and take control of their energy-management journey. It enables access to consumption metering, bill/tariff vetting, and bill reconciliation with the council.

How Does Solar Work?

A solar PV system is made up of two main components:

Path 393.png

Solar PV Panels

These panels convert sunlight into a Direct Current (DC).

String Inverters

The Direct Current (DC) is fed into a string inverter, which converts the DC to an Alternating Current (AC). This is then used in your building’s electrical network to offset the electricity requirement from the grid.
