150kWp Grid Tied

Zenprop Property Holdings Solar PV Initiative
Scope of work:
Savings: Approximately 250MWh and 242 tons of carbon dioxide per annum. A solar PV grid-tied plant with a non- penetrative ballast mounting system.
The Gigawatt team was mandated to design and install a solar PV plant for Zenprop’s Samsung building situated in Bryanston, Johannesburg.
Gigawatt's approach;

Gigawatt designed a system catering to the building’s load profile, with no feedback to the municipal grid. It is a 150kWp grid-tied solar PV plant with a full aluminum, non-penetrative ballast system. The system comprises 576 265W panels configured to twelve ABB 12.5 inverters feeding into a sub-distribution board which leads to a point of contact, that in turn supplies the load of the building.
Outcomes:
The system delivered over 250 MWh in its first year and is performing at 98% of its as-built design criteria.
The client’s investment is well on track with a financial recovery of 102% against the original business case.
The system saves around 242.03 tons of carbon dioxide per annum.

How Does Solar Work?
A solar PV system is made up of two main components:

Solar PV Panels
These panels convert sunlight into a Direct Current (DC).
String Inverters
The Direct Current (DC) is fed into a string inverter, which converts the DC to an Alternating Current (AC). This is then used in your building’s electrical network to offset the electricity requirement from the grid.
