130kWp Grid Tied PV

B&B Wholesalers
Scope of work: System upgrade and operations & maintenance of their existing pitched and flat-roofed solar PV plant.
Date commissioned: April 2016
Savings: R255 000 in cost savings for year 1, Approximately 30% increase in KWh generation, 225 tons of CO2 emissions avoided.

The Gigawatt team was mandated to upgrade and maintain B&B Wholesaler’s existing commercial rooftop solar PV system.
Gigawatt's approach
-
Gigawatt reallocated and reconfigured the existing system layout to make the inverters more efficient, through a parallel input per MPPt per inverter system.
-
In addition, the team serviced and upgraded the inverters, cleaned the solar panels, and throughout the year (every three months), ELDO regularly repositions panels for improved output according to season changes.
-
Proactive monitoring takes place regularly throughout the year.

How Does Solar Work?
A solar PV system is made up of two main components:

Solar PV Panels
These panels convert sunlight into a Direct Current (DC).
String Inverters
The Direct Current (DC) is fed into a string inverter, which converts the DC to an Alternating Current (AC). This is then used in your building’s electrical network to offset the electricity requirement from the grid.
