150kVA Hybrid

Stella Slagpale, Stella, Northwest

Is a 158kWp grid connected solar photovoltaic system with a hybrid controller which is enabling photovoltaic-diesel integration and is currently energy storage ready. Battery Storage is designed to deliver 60 kWh of backup power.

The system comprised of the following:

The Schletter FS11 2V ground mounted system makes use of a hydraulic ram to ram in the posts into their recommended depths. Due to the density of the ground we had to reline several of the post. Heads, mounting girders / strut assembly is then installed, on these we mounted the panel rails.

To these rail we installed 133 strings of Solar Frontier SF170-S K.K modules. In total 931 modules where installed. These panels we selected due to the close proximately of the panel to a busy district dirt road and to minuses cleaning frequencies as water wastage out in the North West is of a concern us us and our client. These modules are designed to produce even under the dustiest environments.

The EFASOLAR 250kVA inverter has been detuned to 160kWp dc to match existing base-load. The 250 kVA capacity will make provision for future plant expansion. Its innovative maximum power point tracking algorithm, on occasions supply a maximum of 190kVA AC output from the photovoltaic power plant.

The EFASOLAR Hybrid Controller is implemented as a smart control and supplies the grid with the maximum renewable energy from the PV system while maintaining a stable network, considerably reducing diesel gensets fuel consumptions thus ensuring a shortened payback period. Furthermore, this integration increases the gensets expected lifetime and reduces maintenance costs.

This system is controlled by EFACEC SCADA system which allow us the functionality to have control and communication with the following devises EFASOLAR 250 inverter and PV-Diesel controller. This control is crucial to ensure grid stability as the lad to the load varies.

Our 158 kWp Solar PV Hybrid Power Plant will deliver 314,860 kWh per annum into Stella Farm’s electricity network. It'S currently been running successfully since October 2016.

How Does Solar Work?

A solar PV system is made up of two main components:

Path 393.png

Solar PV Panels

These panels convert sunlight into a Direct Current (DC).

String Inverters

The Direct Current (DC) is fed into a string inverter, which converts the DC to an Alternating Current (AC). This is then used in your building’s electrical network to offset the electricity requirement from the grid.
